Kingdom of Epirus

The Kingdom of Epirus in northwestern Greece was most famous under Pyrrhus (307–272 BCE), one of the greatest military commanders of antiquity. Pyrrhus invaded Italy and Sicily at the invitation of Greek cities facing Rome, winning costly victories that gave the English language the term ‘Pyrrhic victory.’ Epirus was eventually absorbed into the Roman province of Macedonia in 167 BCE.
