Kingdom of Hungary
The Kingdom of Hungary was the primary Christian bulwark against Ottoman expansion into Central Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries. Under Janos Hunyadi, Hungary defeated the Ottomans at Belgrade (1456) and held the line for decades after Constantinople's fall. The Battle of Mohacs (1526) broke Hungarian independence and incorporated much of the kingdom into the Ottoman Empire and Habsburg domain.
