Kingdom of Pontus

A Hellenistic kingdom on the southern Black Sea coast of Anatolia, founded c.281 BCE by Mithridates I. Under Mithridates VI Eupator it became Rome's most formidable eastern rival, fighting three Mithridatic Wars before its defeat by Pompey in 63 BCE and absorption into the Roman sphere.
