Kingdom of Sicily

Founded by Roger II in 1130, the Norman Kingdom of Sicily encompassed Sicily, southern Italy, and parts of North Africa. One of the most prosperous and cosmopolitan states in Europe, blending Norman, Arab, Byzantine, and Lombard cultures. The dynasty ended in 1194 when Holy Roman Emperor Henry VI conquered the kingdom through his wife Constance's claim.
