Kiribati

Kiribati is a widely dispersed Pacific island state of low-lying atolls straddling the equator and the international date line, with its capital at Tarawa. Formerly part of the British Gilbert and Ellice Islands colony, it gained independence in 1979. Spread across a vast expanse of ocean, it is among the states most threatened by rising sea levels.
