Kosovo

Kosovo, a province with an ethnic Albanian majority, declared independence from Serbia in 2008 following the 1998-99 Kosovo War and NATO air campaign. Over 100 countries recognise Kosovo's independence; Serbia, Russia, and China do not. The International Court of Justice ruled (2010) that the declaration was not contrary to international law. Kosovo aspires to EU and UN membership.
