Lakota Sioux Nation
The Lakota Sioux were a confederation of Plains tribes who dominated the Northern Great Plains. Their resistance to U.S. expansion culminated in the defeat of Custer at Little Bighorn (1876), but U.S. military campaigns and the destruction of the buffalo herds ended their independence by 1890.
