Lombard Kingdom

A Germanic kingdom ruling most of the Italian peninsula from 568, with its capital at Pavia. It pressed the Papacy and the Byzantine Exarchate of Ravenna until Charlemagne conquered it in 774, incorporating Italy into the Frankish realm.
