Mauritius

Mauritius is an island state in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar. Uninhabited until settled successively by the Dutch, French and British, it became independent in 1968. Its diverse population reflects African, Indian, Chinese and European heritage. With a service- and tourism-based economy, it ranks among Africa's most prosperous states. Its capital is Port Louis.
