Mozambique
Mozambique is a state in South-eastern Africa with a long Indian Ocean coastline. A former Portuguese colony, it won independence in 1975 and then endured a lengthy civil war into the early 1990s. Endowed with natural gas and mineral resources, it is crossed by the Zambezi River. Its capital is Maputo in the far south.
