Nationalist Spain
The Nationalist movement that fought the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939) was a coalition of monarchists, Carlists, Falangists, the Catholic Church, and conservative military officers who rose against the Republic in July 1936. Led from 1936 by General Francisco Franco, who consolidated personal power by merging the Falange and Carlist movements into a single party, the Nationalists received decisive material support from Nazi Germany (Condor Legion) and Fascist Italy (CTV, 70,000 troops). Their victory established Franco's authoritarian dictatorship, which lasted until his death in 1975.
