Nepal
Nepal is a landlocked Himalayan state between India and China, with its capital at Kathmandu. Unified in the 18th century under the Gorkha dynasty, it preserved its independence through the colonial era as a Hindu kingdom. A long Maoist insurgency and popular movement led to the abolition of the monarchy and the establishment of a federal republic.
