Northumbria

Northumbria was the northernmost Anglo-Saxon kingdom, a major early center of Christian learning and art, whose southern half fell to Viking conquest in 866 (becoming the Viking Kingdom of York) before the whole region was absorbed into a unified England in the 10th century.
