Old Babylonian Empire
The Old Babylonian Empire (c. 2000-1595 BCE) emerged after the collapse of the Ur III dynasty. Under Hammurabi (c. 1792-1750 BCE), Babylon unified most of Mesopotamia, producing one of the most sophisticated law codes of the ancient world and a rich literary tradition. The empire was ended by the Hittite sack of Babylon in 1595 BCE, after which the Kassite dynasty assumed control and ruled for approximately 400 years.
