Palestine
Palestine, the land at the centre of three Abrahamic religions, was an Ottoman province until the British Mandate (1920-48). The 1948 Arab-Israeli War displaced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians (Nakba). The Oslo Accords (1993) established the Palestinian Authority in Gaza and parts of the West Bank. Hamas's takeover of Gaza (2007) and continued Israeli settlement expansion have left the two-state solution unrealised.
