Panama

Panama is a state forming the narrow land bridge between North and South America, with its capital at Panama City. Originally part of Colombia, it became independent in 1903 with United States backing, enabling construction of the Panama Canal across the isthmus. The waterway, returned to Panamanian control, remains vital to global maritime trade.
