Pueblo Confederacy

The Pueblo peoples of the Rio Grande, normally autonomous towns, who coordinated under Popé in 1680 to expel the Spanish from New Mexico entirely — the only sustained expulsion of a European colonial power by indigenous action in North America. Spain returned twelve years later on markedly different terms.
