Puerto Rico

Ceded to the United States by Spain in 1898 following the Spanish-American War. Puerto Rico became a Commonwealth (Estado Libre Asociado) in 1952. Its residents are US citizens but the island lacks voting representation in Congress and cannot vote in presidential elections.
