Qatar

Qatar is a peninsular state on the western coast of the Persian Gulf, bordering Saudi Arabia, with its capital at Doha. A British-protected sheikhdom that gained independence in 1971, it became one of the world's wealthiest states through vast natural-gas reserves. Ruled by the Al Thani family, it has projected outsized influence through global media and diplomacy.
