Republic of the Congo

The Republic of the Congo is a Central African state on the Atlantic coast, straddling the Equator and largely covered in rainforest. A former French colony independent since 1960, it is often called Congo-Brazzaville to distinguish it from its larger neighbour. Oil dominates its economy. Its capital is Brazzaville, facing Kinshasa across the Congo River.
