Suriname

Suriname is a state on the northern coast of South America, bordering Guyana, Brazil and French Guiana, with its capital at Paramaribo. A former Dutch plantation colony, it gained independence in 1975. Its strikingly diverse population, drawn from African, South Asian, Javanese, Indigenous and other origins, reflects a history of slavery and indentured labour.
