Taiwan

Taiwan is an island state off the southeastern coast of mainland China, with its seat of government at Taipei. After the Chinese Civil War the Republic of China relocated there in 1949 and it evolved from authoritarian rule into a democratic society. A leading high-technology economy, its disputed status remains a central issue in regional and global geopolitics.
