Tanzania
Tanzania is an East African state on the Indian Ocean, formed in 1964 from the union of mainland Tanganyika and the islands of Zanzibar. It contains Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa, and the Serengeti plains. A former British and earlier German territory, it became independent in the early 1960s. Its capital is Dodoma, with Dar es Salaam the largest city.
