Trinidad and Tobago

A twin-island state off the Venezuelan coast, independent in 1962 and unusually industrial for the Caribbean thanks to oil and natural gas. Its diverse Afro- and Indo-Trinidadian population gave rise to Carnival, calypso and steelpan.
