Trinidad and Tobago Colony

The Colony of Trinidad and Tobago was a British possession in the southeastern Caribbean, off the coast of Venezuela. Trinidad passed from Spanish to British control, while Tobago changed hands repeatedly among European powers before the two islands were administratively joined. Shaped by plantation slavery and later indentured labour, it became independent in 1962.
