United Arab Emirates

A federation of seven emirates formed in 1971 on the Persian Gulf. Oil and gas wealth, concentrated in Abu Dhabi, transformed it within a generation, while Dubai became a global trade, aviation and finance hub. A large majority of its residents are foreign workers.
