Atahualpa
Atahualpa was the last sovereign Inca Emperor, having just won a civil war when Pizarro's force arrived in 1532. Ambushed at Cajamarca, he was captured and offered an enormous ransom that was collected but did not save him. Pizarro had him garroted on 26 July 1533. His death destroyed the political coherence of the Inca state.
