Bartholomew Roberts (Black Bart)
Welsh pirate who captured more ships than any other pirate in history — an estimated 400 vessels in three years. Operating across the Atlantic, Caribbean, and West African coast, he devised one of the earliest known pirate codes governing the democratic division of plunder and discipline aboard ship. Killed in action off Cape Lopez, Gabon, February 10, 1722.
