Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor

Charles V ruled the largest European empire since Charlemagne, encompassing the Holy Roman Empire, Spain, the Low Countries, southern Italy, and the Americas. He fought the Ottomans, the Protestant princes, and Francis I of France, while managing the conquest of the Americas. He abdicated in 1556 dividing his empire between Philip II and Ferdinand I. (Same historical figure as Charles I of Spain.)
