Duarte I of Portugal
Duarte I, eldest son of João I, was a philosopher-king known for his literary works including the Leal Conselheiro. His short reign was overshadowed by the catastrophic failure of the expedition to Tangier and the capture of his brother Ferdinand, who died in Moroccan captivity.
