Francisco Pizarro

Francisco Pizarro conquered the Inca Empire with 168 men, capturing Emperor Atahualpa at Cajamarca in 1532 and executing him despite a vast ransom. An illiterate swineherd's son from Extremadura, Pizarro founded Lima and governed Peru before being assassinated in 1541. His conquest opened the Andean highlands with their silver deposits to Spanish exploitation.
