Francisco Vásquez de Coronado
Francisco Vásquez de Coronado led the Spanish expedition of 1540-1542 that explored the southwest of modern North America in search of the mythical Seven Cities of Gold. His party reached the Grand Canyon and explored Kansas but found no gold. His expedition greatly expanded Spanish geographical knowledge of North America.
