Henry Avery
English pirate whose capture of the Mughal treasure ship Ganj-i-Sawai (1695) — the richest single pirate prize in history — triggered a diplomatic crisis between England and the Mughal Empire. Avery vanished after the raid and was never captured, becoming a legend immortalised in popular fiction.
