Henry VII of England
Henry VII founded the Tudor dynasty after defeating Richard III at Bosworth (1485) and sponsored John Cabot's 1497 voyage to North America, giving England its first claim to the continent. His financial prudence and effective government left England prosperous for the expansionist ambitions of his successors.
