John Talbot, 1st Earl of Shrewsbury
John Talbot, 1st Earl of Shrewsbury (c.1387–1453) was the most celebrated English commander of the later Hundred Years' War, known in France as 'the English Achilles.' He commanded the English force at the Battle of Castillon (1453) where he was killed, effectively ending English military ambitions in France. He was over sixty-five at the time of his death, still leading cavalry charges.
