Ghanaian diplomat and seventh UN Secretary-General (1997–2006) who jointly received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001; championed the Responsibility to Protect doctrine but was later criticised for the UN's failures during the Rwandan genocide and for inaction in Darfur; died in August 2018.
