Mikhail Kutuzov
Mikhail Kutuzov was Russia's most celebrated field marshal, appointed supreme commander during Napoleon's catastrophic invasion of Russia in 1812. He fought the bloody Battle of Borodino before controversially abandoning Moscow, then adopted a Fabian strategy of harassment and attrition that destroyed the Grande Armee during the brutal retreat. His strategy of trading space for time proved decisive in breaking French power in the east, though he died before Napoleon's final defeat.
