Saudi-born founder of al-Qaeda who financed and directed the 11 September 2001 attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people in the United States. Driven from Afghanistan after the US invasion, he evaded capture for a decade before being killed by US Navy SEAL Team 6 in Abbottabad, Pakistan, on 2 May 2011.
