Pope Gregory XIII

Ugo Boncompagni, Pope Gregory XIII, introduced the Gregorian calendar (1582) correcting the Julian calendar's accumulated error, still in use today. He supported Jesuit missionary work in Asia and the Americas and expanded seminaries to train Counter-Reformation clergy.
