Pope Pius V

Antonio Ghislieri, Pope Pius V, organised the Holy League that defeated the Ottomans at Lepanto (1571), rigorously enforced the decrees of the Council of Trent, and excommunicated Elizabeth I of England (1570). He was canonised in 1712.
