Pietro Vito Ottoboni, pope 1689–1691. An 80-year-old Venetian who ruled for only two years. His brief pontificate saw the continued conflict with Louis XIV over Gallican liberties and a final settlement over Jansenism after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes.
