Emilio Altieri, pope 1670–1676. Elected at age 79, he ruled largely through his nepotist cardinal-nephew Paluzzo Altieri. His pontificate saw the further expansion of Ottoman power in the Mediterranean and ongoing tensions with Louis XIV over Church appointments in France.
