Alessandro Ludovisi, pope 1621–1623. A skilled diplomat who had earlier negotiated the Peace of Eger. In his brief pontificate he established the Congregatio de Propaganda Fide (1622) to coordinate Catholic missions worldwide and canonised Ignatius of Loyola, Francis Xavier, Teresa of Ávila, Philip Neri, and Isidore the Farmer on the same day.
