Giovanni Battista Pamphilj, pope 1644–1655. Condemned the Peace of Westphalia as prejudicial to Catholic interests (Zelo Domus, 1648). His pontificate was dominated by his sister-in-law Olimpia Maidalchini, whose influence over him caused scandal. He suppressed the Jansenist propositions in Cum Occasione (1653).
