Robert Clive
Robert Clive, known as Clive of India, was a military officer and administrator of the British East India Company who established British supremacy in India through his victory at the Battle of Plassey in 1757. A self-made man who arrived in India as a clerk, he became one of the most powerful figures in the subcontinent's history, though his methods and personal enrichment drew parliamentary censure. His victory at Plassey transformed India's political landscape irrevocably.
