Samuel de Champlain

Samuel de Champlain founded Quebec City in 1608 and was the driving force behind the establishment of New France. He made multiple voyages to Canada, mapped large portions of the interior, and forged alliances with Huron and Algonquin nations. Often called the Father of New France, he combined the roles of explorer, diplomat, cartographer, and colonial governor.
