Tokugawa Ieyasu
Japanese warlord (1543–1616) who won the decisive Battle of Sekigahara on 21 October 1600 and was appointed shogun by the emperor in 1603, establishing the Tokugawa shogunate; his policy of sankin-kōtai requiring daimyo attendance at Edo underpinned 250 years of relative peace known as the Edo period.
