Kangxi Emperor's Reign
The Kangxi Emperor ascends at age 7 in 1661 and rules until 1722, the longest reign in Chinese imperial history. He suppresses the Revolt of the Three Feudatories (1673–1681), incorporates Taiwan, and expands Qing control over Mongolia, Tibet, and Central Asia through a series of campaigns against the Dzungar Khanate. He patronizes Chinese literature and scholarship, commissioning the Kangxi Dictionary with 47,035 characters, and engages Jesuit missionaries at court for their mathematical and astronomical expertise. Under Kangxi and his successors Yongzheng and Qianlong, the Qing empire reaches its greatest territorial extent.
