Tasman's Second Voyage
Tasman's second expedition mapped the Gulf of Carpentaria and much of Australia's northern coast. The Company judged the results commercially worthless — no spices, no ports, no prospect of trade — and largely stopped looking, which is why the continent it had charted first was colonised by someone else a century and a half later.
