Babur
Babur was a Central Asian prince descended from Timur and Genghis Khan who, after losing his ancestral domain in Fergana, carved out a kingdom in Kabul and then invaded the Indian subcontinent. His victory at the First Battle of Panipat in 1526, where he deployed field artillery and flanking tactics against the larger army of Ibrahim Lodi, established the Mughal Empire. An accomplished poet and memoirist, his autobiography the Baburnama is one of the finest personal accounts of the early modern era.
